Net Insight to divest its Sye business

Net Insight to divest its Sye business

Stockholm, Sweden – Net Insight has today signed an agreement to divest its Sye consumer streaming business for SEK 350 million in cash to a Fortune 500 company. The transaction is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

The Sye technology has proven its unique capability to solve fundamental issues for consumer live streaming, a complex ecosystem with large and powerful stakeholders. To influence these stakeholders is critical and the market is less accessible for a small B2B company like Net Insight. In light of this and the offer received, Net Insight has decided to divest the Sye business.

"The fact that a Fortune 500 company wants to acquire Net Insight's internally developed consumer streaming solution is a proof point of our ability to develop world-class video transport solutions," says Gunilla Fransson, Chairman of the Board of Net Insight. "Sye has accelerated Net Insight's transformation to an advanced media technology company and has added invaluable competencies that will remain with Net Insight also after the divestment."

The divestment will allow Net Insight to increase focus and investments in its core B2B media transport business. Competencies gained while developing and launching Sye, for example related to virtualized software and cloud-based technology, will continue to benefit Net Insight's Media Networks business area.

The transaction involves divestment of 100% of the shares in a wholly owned Sye business subsidiary. Under the agreement, all relevant IPRs and contracts and about 30 employees and consultants will be transferred to the buyer. Net Insight's Streaming Solutions business area incorporates the Sye business and the business area operates on an independent basis. As a result, the effects on the rest of Net Insight operations will be limited. The Streaming Solutions business area had operating earnings of SEK -37.5 million for the first nine months of 2019 and to date Net Insight has invested around SEK 215 million in Sye.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.

Mediatech's CDN implements Net Insight's Sye for The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Stockholm, Sweden – Net Insight today announces that its live streaming solution Sye powers Mediatech's end-to-end solution for Hong Kong Jockey Club's live sports mobile app.

"Sye is a gamechanger in the world of live sports and live betting," says Raymond Mo, CEO of Mediatech. "Its ultra-low latency and synchronization capabilities allow for a truly premium experience, where every user can make the most out of the race."

Mediatech is the leading solutions provider for the professional video market in Hong Kong and the surrounding regions. Their CDN solution has coverage both in the region and internationally.

Net Insight unlocks new media applications with RIST Main Profile

Stockholm, Sweden – Net Insight today announces the addition of support for RIST Main Profile to its Nimbra products, further cementing its commitment to open standards and technologies.

Founded by the Video Services Forum, Reliable Internet Stream Transport or RIST, is a technical recommendation developed through industry-wide collaboration that helps foster interoperability among vendors for the rapidly growing internet transport segment for professional media. RIST is quickly becoming a key technology for internet transport, adopted by many traditional transport vendors, as well as public cloud providers.

Building on Simple Profile, the first RIST technical recommendation, the new RIST Main Profile, formally due to be ratified later this year, is now opening up RIST for a wider range of live video use cases such as remote production and cloud ingest through simpler operations and powerful security. Thereby making RIST on par, and even leapfrogging, most commercial internet transport implementations.

As an early supporter of RIST, Net Insight, together with QVidium, was world first to show an interoperable version of RIST Main Profile a few weeks ago. "With internet transport now quickly moving into the mainstream, the focus is changing from technology innovation to interoperability and collaboration," says Alexander Sandström, Head of Product Marketing at Net Insight and co-chair of the RIST Forum. "I'm truly amazed by how well the industry has pulled together and cooperated to quickly bring this advanced technology from idea to implementation."

The announcement comes a week after the launch of Net Insight's new product line, the Nimbra 400 series, reaffirming its commitment to internet transport for premium live media applications.

RIST Main Profile will be showcased at Net Insight's booth 1.B40 at IBC2019 on 13-17 September with commercial availability during Q4 2019.

RTVE selects Net Insight for new nationwide IP media network

Net Insight

RTVE selects Net Insight for new nationwide IP media network

Stockholm, Sweden – The Spanish public broadcaster RTVE (Radio Televisión Española) has selected Net Insight´s Nimbra platform for a new nationwide IP media network.

The Spanish Radio and Television's new network will be a meshed high-capacity network and connects all RTVE´s sites for contribution and distribution of both radio and television.

"The network is a very important part of our cost efficiency strategy. The Nimbra network combines flawless QoS and reliability with very low TCO and operational cost," says Adolfo Muñoz Berrón, Director of Broadcast and networks at RTVE. "We can now use modern IP-based workflows and dynamically use all assets more efficiently, regardless of where in the country these assets are located."

A key component of the new network is the Nimbra 1060, a terabit transport platform which uniquely brings IP-based media across long distances without the costly traffic engineering typically associated with high-quality media transport. Another contributor to agility and reduced TCO is the Media Acceleration Module, a virtualized Nimbra accelerator card supporting a wide range of encode, decode, monitoring and transport applications with one and the same piece of hardware.

"The addition of the new Nimbra 1060 and Media Acceleration Modules in RTVE's network increases both capacity and flexibility to accommodate increased bandwidth demands and new ways of working such as Remote Production," says Ulrik Rohne, VP Media Networks at Net Insight. "RTVE requires the combination of highest QoS and lowest TCO, which only Net Insight technology can provide."

The order was won together with Net Insight's local partner MoMe and delivery will take place during the third quarter 2019.

Net Insight

Net Insight launches Nimbra 400 series

Reaffirming its position in professional internet media transport

Stockholm, Sweden Net Insight today announces the next generation of its Emmy® Award-winning internet media transport offering, the Nimbra 400 series. The new product line is a response to the increasing demand for live media internet transport for premium applications.

Professional media transport over the internet has transformed the broadcast industry over the past decade, enabling broadcasters and service providers to reach new locations faster and more cost-efficiently than ever before. This rapidly growing market segment, driven by technology shifts such as increased use of cloud resources, as well as regulatory shifts such as refarming of the C-band, is now estimated by IABM to 66 MUSD annually with a yearly growth of 22%.

With internet transport expanding further into premium live media workflows, broadcasters now start to blend fiber and internet in the same workflows. This puts increased expectations on both reliability and seamless cross-platform management.

Nimbra 400 has been designed from the ground up to meet these new challenging performance and quality requirements, leveraging Net Insight's more than 20 years of experience in building high-end media equipment. At the same time, with its flexible x86 COTS building practices and software-based architecture the Nimbra 400 series give users true flexibility.

"When we launched our internet transport products back in 2012, we had a clear software-first mindset, which has allowed us to bring new features to market at an incredible pace," says Love Thyresson, Head of Internet Media Transport at Net Insight. "I'm proud to say, the Nimbra 400 series is the perfect balance of high-end media gear and a flexible virtualized platform."

The Nimbra 400 series updates and expands on Net Insight's offering within premium internet transport and effectively replaces the existing Nimbra VA series of products. It will be showcased at Net Insight's booth 1.B40 at IBC2019 on 13-17 September and is available now for worldwide distribution.

The new Nimbra Virtual Functions reduce connectivity costs and media networking complexity for remote production and IP media delivery.

The production of live media is moving towards the centralization of resources and talent. Meanwhile, the use of media processing in the cloud and Internet for content delivery is growing rapidly. As the ongoing transformation of content production and delivery is being built with IT, cloud and Internet technologies, virtual media and network functions (VNFs) have come to prominence.

VNFs are software applications that run on standard hardware platforms. This allows for the addition of new VNFs to an existing network without installing or replacing existing hardware. New functionalities can be added and upgraded, without the costs of site visits and without CAPEX investments in new hardware. This deployment model has emerged as one of the key tools in addressing the challenges of the ongoing production and delivery transformation. By using VNFs, media companies can quickly adapt to changing market requirements and customer needs.

"Net Insight is at the vanguard for the adoption of technologies that reduce the cost and time-to-market for live media delivery," says Ulrik Rohne, VP Media Networks at Net Insight. "The addition of this latest Nimbra Virtual Function update will offer new and existing customers the industry's most adaptable remote production and live media delivery platform."

This Nimbra Virtual Function update includes parallel JPEG 2000 encoding and decoding, MPEG H.264, ASI to ST 2022 IP adaption, as well as Ethernet switching application packages. These standards-based virtual functions have been balanced to retain high image quality, eliminate network data loss and reduce the cost of content transmission. This latest set of virtual functions are compatible with the Nimbra 600's general and special purpose resources.

"The release of this new set of Nimbra Virtual Functions offers a larger spectrum of our customers even more options to seamlessly transition to remote production," says Damien Nagle, Strategic Product Manager at Net Insight.

Come visit Net Insight's booth 1.B40 at IBC2019 on 13-17 September, to learn more about the new Nimbra Virtual Functions.
